Having drawn their last match 3-3 All Saints were determined to put things right and come away with a victory away to St Aidans. The game started brightly with All Saints playing a lot of decent football, Matthew Eley in particular shining during the opening stages. St Aidans were testing the All Saints backline with some tricky balls over the top of the defence. It was indeed the impressive Eley who mustered up the first chance of the match, after dribbling past two players he shot wide of the left hand post. St Aidans then had a great chance only for Wayne Raby to pull off an excellent save with his legs to turn the ball away for a corner. Eley was in full flow now and when he was fouled on the edge of the area Richard Robinson curled home the free-kick with the keeper routed to the spot. It wasn’t long before the lead was doubled, when Jamie Dunn played the ball inside to John Belmont who, from almost 30 yards out, smashed the ball with venom into the bottom left hand corner for his first goal of the season. All Saints were in full flow now and made it 3-0 within half an hour when Glen Hutchinson reacted quickest to a save by the keeper to slot the ball home. As in the game with Snods Edge earlier in the season, All Saints took their foot off the gas and with the celebration hardly over from their 3rd goal, a mix up at the back let a sweetly struck volley go inside the post from 18 yards out, Raby left with no chance. Just before half time it was 3-2, after some hesitancy between the midfield and defence this time letting a cross come in that was headed half clear but the ball was struck back in and planted in the bottom corner.
Half time: St Aidans 2 v 3 All Saints
Appearing on the pitch determined to correct their sloppy end to the half, All Saints again started to play football and a great move gave All Saints their forth; when great work by both Will Turton and Robinson laid off Jamie Dunn who took a delightful first touch before slamming the ball home. St Aidans didn’t have many chances during the second half and didn’t test Raby at all, their best chance coming when their striker was left on the edge of the area but his shot went well over the bar. With only two minutes to play Dunn received the ball from Robinson on the edge of the area to fire the ball past the stranded keeper. This result meant it was back to winning ways for All Saints as they cemented their place on the top of the table.
