All Saints Kings maintained their 100% record this season with an unconvincing win against fellow promoted side Calvary. Despite All Saints not being at their best in the first period, they did enough to keep the scores level with Calvary creating the best chances in a scrappy opening 20 minutes. Their best chance of the game came from a free-kick after John Belmont was adjudged to have handballed 25 yards out; the chip towards the back post was met by a Calvary head, but his header went a yard wide with the goal at his mercy. Kings needed to step up a gear and did when they had a succession of corners, the third of which Matthew Trotter slammed home with a ferocious shot, after Richie Robinson drilled the ball low towards the edge of the area; one from the training ground! Just two minutes later and Calvary created another great chance, the ball played into the box, and with the All Saints defence not getting out of their box fast enough, Calvary’s striker sliced his shot wide with only the keeper to beat.
Half time: All Saints Kings 1 v 0 Calvary
The second half produced a much better performance from All Saints as they seemed to keep possession and play some good football. Ten minutes into the second half, All Saints tried another training ground move, the conga line split only for Matthew Trotter to be brought down in the box; the referee had no other option but to point to the spot; Robinson converted the resulting penalty. Some great defensive work across the back line reduced Calvary to just one chance in the second half; a drilled shot from the edge of the area, which Andrew Bensley got down well to save. The third came when the instrumental Matthew Trotter whipped in a corner that Jamie Dunn rose highest for to loop his header into the top corner. There were still 15 minutes to play but they were played out with ease by All Saints to end a more professionally played second half.
