A two minute double salvo for Kings with only five minutes remaining kept their 100% record for the season intact. On a bitterly cold day, both teams took to the icy pitch in cautious fashion; with the game seemingly taking a long time to really get going. The first half offered very few chances with neither keeper being tested in any challenging way. The best chance of the half fell to the instrumental Chris Trotter after some great work from Jamie Dunn. Dunn weaved his way past two Bethany defenders before squaring for Trotter, who from six yards out miss hit his shot wide of the target. The referee blew for the end of a bitterly disappointing first half for both teams.
Half-Time: All Saints 0 v 0 Bethany
The second half was much more entertaining; with All Saints providing most of the ammunition but again failing to hit the back of the net. Their best chance came when Dunn was played through by Richard Robinson for a one on one, but he shot straight at the keeper who smothered the ball. Kings had another chance on the hour mark when a whipped ball in from Robinson curled into the six yard box, but Trotter was inches away from getting on the end of it and adding to the two goals he has scored this season. Bethany’s only real chance of the game came when Stephen Farish played a backpass to stand in keeper Wayne Raby who took his time in kicking the ball long, the kick was blocked by the onrushing striker, but the ball trickled 3 feet wide of the left hand post. Two minutes later and kings were infront, some great work down the right flank by Matthew Eley gave himself room to cross, finding Robinson at the back post who calmly slotted into the top left hand corner. Kings didn’t have to wait long for their second, again great work down the right hand side by Chris Whitehead and Eley found Dunn in the box, with far too much room, and he calmly slotted home for his 9th league goal of the season. Kings march on but it could have been a totally different report had it not been for the frantic last 10 minutes.
